If you've ever started to see someone and everything seems to be going perfectly but all of a sudden things start to head south - you could be a victim of 'love bombing'.
When you first start dating someone, everything is new and exciting and you could think this is the one - they give you all of their attention, you're really loved up but then things turn sour very quickly and they just dump you out of nowhere.
Apparently, it's called 'love bombing' and it's something you have to look out for, especially around this festive period when you might be tempted to couple up with someone.
The manipulative tactic is heart breaking and unfortunately has happened to a lot of people on the look out for love.
'Love bombing' is described when someone tries to control another individual with 'bombs' from day one, according to psychiatrist, Dale Archer.
In a blog post he described that it occurs in a whirlwind romance where one half will try to influence a person with affection, attention, presents and talk about their future together.
While things begin to progress quickly it can push aside any feelings of doubts because you're so loved up and makes you believe things are all genuine.
And this is when the 'love bombing' strikes - you become dependent on the 'predator' and things will quickly turn from the "honeymoon period" to disaster.
In the blog post on PsychologyToday he said, "If extravagant displays of affection continue indefinitely, if actions match words, and there is no devaluation phase, then it’s probably not love bombing.
"On the other hand, if there’s an abrupt shift in the type of attention, from affectionate and loving to controlling and angry, with the pursuing partner making unreasonable demands, that’s a red flag.
"The important thing to remember about love bombing is that it is psychological partner abuse, period. When one person intentionally manipulates and exploits another’s weakness or insecurity, there’s no other word for it."
So if you're looking for the 'one' you might want to be wary of this dating trend.
