If you often find yourself looking for a way to give back or spread a bit of extra festive cheer at Christmas you might be interested in Care Pack, an Irish kindness initiative that connects residents in a care home with a volunteer who'd like to write to them or send them a small gift.
For the last few years, Care Pack have paired tens of thousands of residents in nursing homes, care homes and other care facilities with families and individuals, who then package up a parcel and send it off in time for Christmas. 13k and 20k residents were matched in 2020 and 2021 respectively, and An Post also teamed up with the business to ensure free delivery for packages under one kilo sent within the Republic of Ireland.

If you were hoping to send a package this year, all their residents are currently matched up - that's 20.6k residents who can now expect a package when Christmas rolls around. This can hardly be considered bad news - it's amazing that so many people will be opening a thoughtfully put together present on Christmas - but if you're disappointed you weren't able to partake, Care Pack also welcomes people to write letters, cards and draw pictures to send to residents. This initiative was originally for schools and youth groups, but Care Pack have said that "there are lots of residents available there so you are not taking them on school students".
