You go around living your life as best you can, showering regularly and even taking the time to wash your goddamn hair when suddenly - without any warning - you find out that all those bottles of expensive conditioners, all those pricey shampoos bought in a panic at the hairdressers have ALL been useless.

Why? Apparently us and everyone we know have been washing our hair completely wrong.

The usual routine of shampoo, lather, rinse, condition and rinse has been thrown out the window

According to Nina Dimachki, artistic director for Kérastase, the trick is to condition your hair before you use the shampoo.

"Conditioning before you shampoo is great for adding nourishment to fine hair without weighing it down," says Nina.

"It also promotes a longer lasting blowdry and primes the hair before cleansing, allowing shampoo to distribute easier and more evenly."

Apparently hair that's highlighted, tangles after being washed or is just prone to greasiness should also be conditioned before you shampoo you hair

While we've only ever conditioned the bottoms of our hair before, Nina says that you should use conditioner ALL OVER your hair, from root-to-tip if you're following her advice of using conditioner before the shampoo.

"You will be cleansing it after, so your hair won't be weighed down or oily," she explains.

Interesting. We'll try anything for sleek shiny locks, but jaysus we're gonna be spending a whole lotta money on conditioner.
