Expert Says There’s Only One Hangover Cure That Actually Works

It might be Dry January but for anyone still on the booze train the only thing dry this morning is their cotton mouth. And their eyes. Goddamn why do your eyes get dry when you're hungover?

While you may be reaching straight away for a big fry up and a Bloody Mary to ease your pain, it turns out there's really only one cure for a hangover- and it's not what you're gonna want to hear.

INSIDER magazine spoke to registered dietitian nutritionist Malina Linkas Malkani of the Wholitarian Lifestyle who revealed the truth.

Greasy food is a big no-no and as for hair of the dog? That vodka in the morning won't cure you for long

"Eating fatty foods may irritate your stomach further," Malkani said. "Eating a full meal before you drink is important though, whether that one is greasy or not."

Instead of a Full Irish, she suggests eating dry toast or crackers to absorb excess acid and sooth the stomach, adding that the hair of the dog fix will only make you feel better temporarily and it's better to hydrate with water.

The one hangover cure that's foolproof?

We hate to break it to you, but the only thing to cure the hangover is time. "The body will break down the alcohol in eight to 24 hours, depending on how fast your body can metabolize it," Malkani said.
