The Simpsons will be more than familiar with the oft-quoted line by Principal Skinner's exasperated boss in the show. Back in the real world, we might be lucky enough to get a good glimpse of the phenomenon later tonight.
David Moore, editor of Astronomy Ireland magazine, has told the
Irish Independent that there is a 'good chance' the Northern Lights will be visible over Ireland tonight, adding 'We're hoping it'll be extra strong. We're advising everyone to be watching the northern horizon, especially if you’ve got a great dark sky.'
Mr. Moore did, however, include the caveat that 'we never know with these things.' Jeez. Talk about getting our hopes up. If the skies are clear enough though, we're in for quite a treat as he adds 'We haven't a good one in years so this could be the one.'
