RTÉ Weather emphasised yesterday the dangers Hurricane Ophelia poses to our country.
Meteorologist Joanna Donnelly spoke about the Category Three hurricane that's expected to reach our shores by Monday, necessitating a Red Level warning on the west coast, the highest weather warning in Ireland, while the rest of the country is issued with the Orange Level warning, the second highest.
Gusts of greater than 130km/hr are expected in Galway, Mayo, Clare, Cork and Kerry and high seas are also set to batter these counties, being up to 10 metres high in places.
It has been compared to 1961's tropical storm Hurricane Debbie, which caused the death of 18 of our citizens.
