The period of longer, brighter days and pints with pals in sunny beer gardens is finally here.
These extended summer days also bring about some pretty picturesque sunsets.
Nothing quite signals the start of the Irish summer like a sky full of eye-catching reds, pinks and oranges. Sunsets are such an intrinsic part of Irish culture that we even have an old phrase about them to help forecast the next day's weather: Red sky at night, shepherd's delight.
While these epic sunsets can be seen from right across the island, we have compiled some of our favourite viewing points to catch the sunset on the day.
Located off the coast of Mayo, Achill Island is renowned for its picturesque views and tranquillity.

With the option to walk along the island's gorgeous Keel Beach or explore Keem Bay, you are bound to have an amazing view of the sunset across the backdrop of the sea and sky.
Coined by some as Kildare's best sunset location, McGuires Hill, located at the Curragh, is a sunset spot to add to your list.
From McGuires Hill, you can take in the gorgeous landscape and watch the sky transform into a mosaic of colour.
Located in Barna, Co. Galway, Silverstrand Beach is a shallow and sandy beach well known as a fabulous spot for a swim during high tide.
As the evening approaches, however, it becomes alight with the vibrant pinks, reds and oranges that come with the end of the day.

It also faces Galway Bay, providing spectacular views that are sure to supersede expectations.
This 3,000-year-old monument from the early Bronze Age can be the perfect backdrop for the sunset.
Located at Kenmare in Co. Kerry, this is a tranquil and quiet spot to take in the beauty of the end of the day while also soaking up some history.
Located in the seaside town of Kilmuckridge in Co. Wexford, Morriscastle Beach is a secluded beach with a natural bay extending over 5 km.
While being known as a swim-safe beach, the gorgeous open sky is the perfect backdrop for a sunset as you take a stroll along the sand.
Howth Head is the perfect place to catch the sunset while taking in some amazing views of Dublin’s coastline.
For avid walkers out there, you can begin at Howth Village's harbour and embark on a 7.8km clifftop loop of the coast. Just make sure you time it so you're not stuck coming back down in the dark!

For anyone who isn't so keen on hiking, you can park in the Howth Head car park and simply head up to the summit from there.
