‘We can’t keep going’ – popular Westport café announce closure after 7 years

The latest in a series of closures across the country.

Over the past few years Westport has established itself a, dare we say, trendy destination for cool kids looking for more than a holiday - its cosy pubs, idyllic landscapes and cute cafés are all part of the attraction, and Cian's on Bridge Street has been at the centre of that for almost a decade. Sadly, the beloved café announced the closure of their Westport branch over the weekend, citing rising costs and the fallout from covid as the cause. In a post on Instagram, the team wrote:

It is with a very heavy heart to announce our Bridge street westport premises closure. Unfortunately because of rising costs and the fallout from covid we can’t keep going here on Bridge street. We tried our best to come out of covid times by trying different things but we just fell short in the end. 

https://www.instagram.com/p/CnoxKOzIM59/ They added that they were proud of what they had created in the community of Westport, referencing their relationships with regular customers, successful collabs with local businesses and being awarded a Michelin plaque as reasons to "keep our heads up high". Cian's Castlebar location will remain open for anyone looking for their gourmet awarded burger fix, and the emotional post also offers hope that this won't be the end entirely -

We want to keep our heads up high as we will always keep going and trying new things so keep an eye out for something new in the near future.
