The owner of a Limerick restaurant has announced she won’t be accepting cash payments any more in a bid to stop more burglaries from happening.
The Tuscany Bistro Italian restaurant in Newtown, Castleroy, has been broken into three times over the past three months; the first two burglaries took place over one weekend in April, while the third happened last weekend.
It will now be going cashless along with the two other Tuscany Bistro restaurants in the chain, one at The Granary in Limerick City and the other in Ballina, Co Tipperary.
While no money was taken during the burglaries, the owners have had to pay for repairs to smashed windows and locks, and they now worry it will give burglars “incentive” to try and steal cash.
Owner Sabrina Amodeo told
The Irish Times, “We really feel it is time to go cashless. It’s safer for our employees, and safer for our business. Hopefully those who are causing us such hassle will bugger off now.”
She added, “We are going cashless in all our businesses. We feel we have no choice. They are clearly looking for cash and I’m not going to give them the incentive.”
