McKevitts Village Hotel in Co. Louth have responded online to a TripAdvisor review which complained about staff refusing to serve diners who were visiting from Dublin.
In a Facebook post, the Carlingford hotel shared a screenshot of the review (which has now been removed from the travel website) outlining how the writer's parents were asked for their Eircode when they came in for lunch. The review says that 'as our Eircode starts with 'D', she (the staff member) promptly interrupted, declaring that they will not be serving anybody from Dublin.'
Under current guidelines, people living in Dublin are advised not to leave the county except for essential purposes. Sharing the screenshot, in which the experience was described as 'humiliating' for the user's parents, McKevitts wrote:
'Here at McKevitts, we accept all feedback whether it be positive or negative. However, we feel like this type of “review” is very unfair. Since our reopening on June 29, we have taken every precaution to ensure the safety of our customers and staff. We have completed all Covid-19 safety charter criteria.
'As a result, we have passed the Fáilte Ireland inspection and are proud to be registered as a Covid-19 compliant premises. Part of these changes has been to abide by all government guidelines in relation to Covid-19. We made the decision as a business to not accept guests from any county affected by government restrictions as a protective measure for all.
'We do not apologise for protecting our customers both old and new in these trying times and certainly do not apologise for making every attempt to ensure the safety of our hardworking staff. We encourage all potential customers to listen to government guidelines and recommendations and we will continue to provide a safe environment for all permitted customers.'
Louth is one of a
number of counties where Covid-19 cases are being closely watched with a view to entering risk level 3 restrictions, which is the level Dublin is in now. Dublin is currently scheduled to remain in level 3 until October 9 at the earliest.
