Cambridge is one of the most beautiful places in the UK.
It's a hip student town, everyone travels by bike, there's stunning markets and great places to eat and drink. I headed over last weekend for a family wedding and I was blown away by it.
You could spend an entire week there and not get bored but if you're just popping over for a short weekend stint, I've compiled a list of the things you definitely do not want to miss:
Breakfast: Bills
This funky brunch chain is a must to start off your day.
Inside there's quirky and colourful decor and bubbly staff and an extensive brunch menu with everything you could possibly crave - pancakes, eggs benny, a fry up and veggie options.
Lunch: Galleria
We booked Galleria on a whim but I think it was my favourite meal of the entire trip. The menu was really reasonably priced, the wine was divine and my eyes rolled back in my skull when I took the first nibble of my dish.
I went for a mushroom pasta, a dish that's often really heavy and creamy but this one was perfectly light. My family ordered an array of duck, seafood pasta, Moroccan chicken and gourmet salads, each looked as delicious as the last.
The restaurant overlooks the river and the service was top quality, couldn't fault it!
Dinner: Brown's
Brown's is a huge trendy venue and the ideal spot for an occasional meal without burning a hole in your pocket.
All of the dishes were bursting with fresh ingredients and unique flavours.
They also serve up afternoon tea if you're looking for something fun to do during the day.
Where To Drink: The Punter
After punting down the river there's really no place better to go.
The punter is a quirky old-school pub near the river that has a stunning area outside where you can perch yourself in the sun. It was 38 degrees the day of our visit so I was happy to jump into the shady sheltered area beside it. It feels like you're drinking in your granny's back garden but that's what makes this venue so adorable.
Pints a-plenty and serious craic.
What To Do: Go Punting
You can't go to Cambridge and not go punting.
A punt is a long, short boat, it typically fits about six people with one punter. I was on punting duty and I have to say, it's pretty tough. You guide the boat along by standing at the back and pushing it with a long, heavy stick. We crashed into about seven other boats, drove into walls and plants but I guess that's the fun of it!
If you're not up for guiding the boat yourself, there are tour guides that go along the river - probably a safer option!
What To See: The Campus'
Cambridge is a student town with 31 colleges.
The campus' are absolutely stunning - very Harry Potter-esque and are well worth checking out and walking around.
During the summer, you can actually stay on-campus residence while the students are away from the books. It's a great way of getting a feel for university life.
Such an amazing spot for a weekend break!
