It's fair to say that Who Wants to Be a Millionaire doesn't carry the same sense of tension that it used to back in its turn-of-the-century heyday.
Back then, millions of viewers were gripped to Who Wants to Be a Millionaire each night as contestants took on the task of answering 15 questions for a million quid. Now, in the smartphone age, viewers don't even have to wait to see the answers and impatience with a contestant taking a long time can be eased by a quick Google.
However, there's still scope for great drama in the quiz show and tonight's episode that will air on Virgin Media One will see more drama than we've seen on the programme in 14 years. We're not going to tell you why because that would be a spoiler but what we will say is that nobody has won the top prize on the UK version of the show since 2006.
Nope, not once since September 23, 2006 when Ingram Wilcox became the fifth contestant to win a million quid, has anyone else managed to win make it all the way to the top of the ladder. Yet here we are, nearly 14 years to the day later and Virgin Media have
confirmed that tonight's episode is going to be pretty special and viewers in Ireland are being urged to tune in.
Since taking over as host in 2018, Jeremy Clarkson has yet to oversee a contestant winning the mil but, like we said, watching the show tonight might be worth your while. Our lips are sealed.
