Breaking Bad + John Wick = The best action movie of 2021?
Bob Odenkirk has proven to be a tremendous actor over his seasons in Breaking Bad and the equally great Better Call Saul, but for his new movie he appears to be "doing a Neeson" and going full late-in-life action star.
Based on a script by Derek Kolstad (the guy who wrote John Wick, John Wick 2, and provided the story for John Wick 3), directed by
Ilya Naishuller (the guy who gave us bonkers first-person action-movie Hardcore Henry), and produced by David Leitch (the guy behind Deadpool 2, Atomic Blonde, and Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw), it is fair to say that Nobody has got an immense action team behind it.
The story is based what appears to be a regular guy (Odenkirk), who initially appears to be a little traumatised by his family home being broken into. Soon after, he intervenes to help a woman being harassed by a group of men, and it isn't long before he becomes the target of a vengeful drug lord. Turns out this "regular guy" has a sordid, violent history that he has managed to keep a secret, even from his wife and kids...
So what we've got is a kind of mish-mash of John Wick, True Lies, and A History of Violence, and from the action sequences in the trailer, we should expect a huge mountain of bodies to be piled up in Odenkirk's wake, as he takes on some whopper hand-to-hand and shoot-out scenes.
To be honest, it just looks like A LOT of fun, and exactly the kind of movie we want to see in a cinema as soon as possible.
Nobody is due for release in Irish cinemas on 5 March 2021.
