The ever-wise Sir David Attenborough had an important message for the public this week, speaking to BBC Breakfast about his grave concerns for the future.
Commenting that it's only now that we're realising the "appalling damage" we humans have done to the planet, the natural historian said that we must face up to the consequences of our actions and try to rectify them.
"I don't despair because what would you go and do? Just go hide in a corner... crying in a corner and forgetting it all and giving up? I mean we have a responsibility and it there's only a fragment of hope left, you have a responsibility to do something about it. That's why we're here.
Later asked what one choice he'd like people to make today, the much-loved broadcaster responded by saying:
"Don't waste. Don't waste anything. Don't waste electricity. Don't waste food. Don't waste power. Just treat the natural world as though it's precious, which it is, and don't squander those bits of it we have control of."

One of the world's most well-known (and well-liked) environmentalists, Sir David has devoted over 60 years of his life to educating people about the natural world. Adding that it's only after seeing the damage we've done that we realise how dependent we are on the world around us, he noted that: "every breath we take, every mouthful of food we eat comes from the natural world ultimately and if we damage it we damage ourselves".
Also answering a few questions from some young fans, Sir David pondered which
animal would win in a fight - a lion, a rhino or a hippopotamus... the hippo seems to get his vote.
