Brendan Gleeson will take on the role of Donald Trump in upcoming TV drama The Comey Rule.
Irish actor Brendan Gleeson will have his work cut out for him with his next role, stepping up to the plate as Donald Trump in The Comey Rule.
Set to play the President of the United States in an upcoming miniseries about former FBI Director James Comey, a teaser for the series was released last month - showing Gleeson in side profile (while in character as Trump), the image caused many fans to do a double-take.
The resemblance is uncanny... and yet you can still tell that it's Gleeson underneath it all. Amazing, isn't it?

Adapted from James Comey's book 'A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies and Leadership', a New York Times number one bestseller no less, the series is described as "an immersive, behind-the-headlines account of the historically turbulent events surrounding the 2016 presidential election".
In an interview with
Vanity Fair, writer-director Billy Ray, commented that the project is unique as this is the first time that the Trump election has been explored in a way that's not satire. “We are the first depiction ever of Donald Trump as a dramatic character", he said. Praising Gleeson for his "courage" in taking on the mammoth task, Ray went on to add:
"Here’s a guy who’s won plenty of awards. He’s had a great career. He’s sitting in Ireland, bothering nobody. This guy needs controversy like he needs a hole in the head. I mean, there’s just no reason to invite the kind of grief that he’s about to catch.
And in fact, he actually turned the part down the first time we offered it to him for exactly that reason... if you are a private person, like Brendan, boy, this is inviting a lot of rancour from someone who’s not shy about letting you know if he’s unhappy with something you’ve done, right?"

Starring alongside American actor Jeff Daniels, the programme will air on American channel Showtime in late November.
