Just a day after the Golden Globes wrapped up for another year, awards season rolls on with the announcement of the BAFTA nominees.
Due to take place on Sunday, February 2, the BAFTAS are widely viewed as the most prestigious awards handed out by the British film industry and as has been customary in recent times, Saoirse Ronan has gotten the nod again.
The Irish actress has been nominated in the category of Best Actress in a Leading Role for her performance as Jo March in Greta Gerwig's Little Women and while Saoirse might be used to the limelight, she'll have to share it with a compatriot this time around.
Also nominated in the same category is Co. Kerry's Jessie Buckley, who has been recognised for her role as aspiring country singer Rose-Lynn Harlan in the musical drama Wild Rose which is due for release here in April. The trailer for the critically-acclaimed flick can be viewed below...

If one of the Irish ladies wants to take home the BAFTA, they'll need to beat off stiff competition from some of the biggest names in the industry. The other three nominees for Best Actress in a Leading Role are Scarlett Johansson for Marriage Story, Charlize Theron for Bombshell and Renée Zellweger for Judy.
As for Best Film, the Once Upon A Time In Hollywood and 1917 teams will be hoping to carry on from their success at the Golden Globes, coming up against The Irishman, Joker and Parasite in the prestigious category.
