The new series of Derry Girls will be its last, according to Lisa McGee

We'll miss them all. Even the wee English fella.

Is there a household in Ireland that hasn't ruptured with laughter during a Derry Girls ep? We've cringed, we've cried, we've bopped along to the soundtrack and viewers from all over the world have found ways to relate to this iconic retelling of growing up in 90s Northern Ireland. But all good things must come to an end. Erin and the gals are growing up, and as they move onto the next chapter in their lives so must we. Earlier today on Twitter, Derry Girls creator and writer Lisa McGee revealed that season 3 will be the final instalment of the beloved show. https://twitter.com/LisaMMcGee/status/1440985114016628739?s=20 In an emotional statement Lisa wrote:

It was always the plan to say goodbye after three series. Derry Girls is a coming of age story; following five ridiculous teenagers as they slowly... very slowly... start to become adults, while around them the place they call home starts to change too and Northern Ireland enters a new more hopeful phase - which was a small, magical window of time. Derry Girls is a love letter to the place I come from and the people who shaped me. It's been an honour to write it and I will forever be proud of everything it's achieved. 

It's the end of one of our most beloved eras. Mary's aversion to half-loads of washing, Sister Michael's eye rolls and Granda Joe's pure, unadulterated hate of Gerry will be etched in our hearts forever, and we'll be inhaling the final season with gusto. It'll be hard to say goodbye, but in the words of Sister Michael: "If anyone is feeling anxious, worried or maybe you just want a chat, please, please do not come crying to me".
