It's been a few weeks since crime drama
Dublin Murders wrapped up on RTÉ after entertaining and confusing people in equal measure during its run.
The eight-episode show, based on the novels of Tana French, had Irish viewers gripped but it's fair to say that some felt the series petered out a bit after a promising start. The ending in particular had people a bit lost, as this
series of tweets will testify.
Since
Dublin Murders finished up here at the beginning of November, it has crossed the Atlantic where is being shown on US network Starz. The success of a TV show is often measured by how well it does Stateside and if people are in agreement with the Hollywood Reporter's take on the series then it hasn't gone down too well.
The publication has posted a fairly scathing assessment, echoing a general sentiment over here that
Dublin Murders tried to squeeze in too many storylines. While its main stars Killian Scott and Sarah Greene are somewhat praised for being 'moody and engaging', reviewer Tim Goodman says that the decision to mix two of French's books together (
In The Woods and
The Likeness) makes the series 'a mess and, in parts, preposterous.'
He goes on to say that the doppelgänger plot involving Greene's character Cassie is said to be 'milked in boring ways during the middle stretch of boring episodes', and an 'absurd' story that's 'not worth telling because it's not even momentarily interesting.'
The big reveal of Rob (Scott)'s secret is called 'muddy' while the ending is 'not satisfying or believable'. All in all, it's fair to say that
Dublin Murders hasn't gone down well across the pond, or at least in the eyes of one leading TV critic.
