The Choice Music Prize Shortlist For Irish Album Of The Year Has Been Revealed

All Tvvins, Lisa Hannigan and James Vincent McMorrow are among the acts that have been shortlisted for this year's RTÉ Choice Music Prize.

The shortlist of artists in with a chance to win the coveted title of Irish Album of the Year 2016 was announced earlier today.

The 12th annual RTÉ Choice Music Prize celebrates and recognises the very best in Irish music, and has been a highlight of the industry since 2005.

Stakes are high for the lucky winner, as they will received a prize fund of €10,000 and the opportunity to showcase their music to a wider Irish audience.

The ultimate winner will be announced at a live event, held in Vicar Street in Dublin on Thursday 9th March, with a selection of shortlisted artists performing on the night.

Speaking about the respected event, Willie Kavanagh of the Irish Recorded Music Association said that "the ongoing search for new artists and new music, which is the focus of the RTE Choice Music Prize, represents the life blood of the music industry in Ireland”.

Previous winners include SOAK, a young singer-songwriter from Derry who impressed with her album Before We Forgot How To Dream, and Gavin James (pictured).

Interesting to note is that three of the shortlisted albums are self-released, a sign of the recent change in how artists are releasing their music.
