Facebook has done a lot of chopping and changing since it was first launched in 2004 – and indeed, since it first went global between 2006 and 2008.
And while the older versions of the site were once so familiar to us, they now look insanely dated, and quite strange.
Here's a visual history of what the site used to look like.
Check that header logo, wha.

Long before it exploded around the world, this is the first edition of the homepage – which was also the individual profile page – that users became used to.
Back when you had to list your own interests, rather than Facebook telling you what you liked. Good times, eh?

This is probably the version that most Irish people remember from when they first signed up.

Of course if you wanted to use Facebook 'on the go', you were met with this pretty sight...

Ah here we go now – it's starting to look a bit more familiar, isn't it?

The white spaces around the edges here caused massive outcry at the time. Amazingly, the world went on and we got used to it... and we actually grew to quite like the decluttered, stress-free profile pages.

But check out this old-school version of the mobile app...

Remember how you used to be able to line up those top five photos to make one long image?
Like, if you had a lot of time on your hands?

Oh hello, cover pictures. How did we get this far without you?
Also... the infamous 'timeline'.

Bit messy on the links front, but all in all this was a major step towards the Facebook we know today.

Just think: one day, even this is going to seem retro.
