But now a psychologist in the UK has said that playing Christmas music too early in the year actually has a negative impact on our mental health, and can lead to unnecessary stress and anxiety.

Linda Blair told Sky News: “Christmas music is likely to irritate people if it’s played too loudly and too early.

“It might make us feel that we’re trapped — it’s a reminder that we have to buy presents, cater for people, organize celebrations.”

She noted that the issue is particularly prevalent for those working in retail, as they are subject to hearing the same festive tunes played over and over again around the holiday season.

Linda explained: "Music goes right to our emotions immediately and it bypasses rationality.

It's a sentiment shared by the union USDAW, which told Sky News: "We ask employers to consider the staff who have to listen to Christmas music all day, because playing the same songs repeatedly can become very irritating and distracting."

However, with Christmas coming earlier and earlier each year, it looks like this is an issue that isn't going away anytime soon!
