Despite learning Irish in school from the ages of 4-17, it's kinda a given that the majority of people in the country has verrrrrry little command of our native lingo.
Sure, we can get away with a few words on holidays when we want to be super sneaky in front of other tourists, but for the most part the nation is shocking bad at gabbing as gaeilge.
And once you see how much the Irish language has dropped since the 1800's you'll be amazed at how quickly something can be lost.
Reddit user Cecil posted an image of the decline of native Irish speakers (aka those who count Irish as their first language), and jaysis there's some decrease.
Doubtful that there'll be any native Irish speakers in the next 100 years by the looks of that...
