Mayo County Council has been forced to apologise after giving Tommy Tiernan permission to carry a fake coffin around a local cemetery.

Several local residents in Foxford were left shocked when they visited Toomore burial grounds and discovered the comedian dressed as a priest.

According to The Irish Independent, Tiernan was "parading around the cemetery" with a fake coffin as part of a sketch for RTÉ comedy The Hardy Bucks.

However, the local authority has now been forced to apologise for giving permission for the filming and star Mikey Durkan said it was "never our intention to deliberately upset anyone".
