Derry Girls writer Lisa McGee has been speaking about her plans for a movie version of the hit Channel 4 comedy.
Speaking to Ray D'Arcy on RTE Radio One yesterday, Lisa McGee said that an idea for a Derry Girls movie is already forming in her head. The first two seasons of the 1990s-set comedy have proven very successful and McGee thinks that work on a movie will begin once the third series is wrapped up.
She told D'Arcy: "For a while, I was like 'I dunno will it work'. But now an idea or a movie is starting to vaguely form in my head. So after series three I’ll think about that a bit more I’d like to do it, and I think the girls would like to do it. So I think that would sort of be the long term plan. We should have been shooting it now but it has been pushed back and we are trying to wait until it is safe."
In the meantime, fans can look forward to Lisa's foray into the world of crime thrillers when The Deceived, her collaboration with husband Tobias Beer starts airing on Virgin Media in the near future. You can read more about the series, which stars Normal People's Paul Mescal,
