In this modern age, it's widely acknowledged that if there's something you want in life, there's never any harm in sending a DM.
That's what Katie Taylor did when she messaged boxing promoter Eddie Hearn back in October 2016 about the possibility of turning pro. Having just experienced a career low by crashing out of the Rio Olympics, the 2012 gold medalist got in touch with Eddie to sound out a move into the pro ranks.
Hearn shared the exchange on Twitter last night as part of the viral 'how it started/how it's going trend', with one image showing Katie's message and the other showing the pair posing with all the belts the Bray fighter has accumulated since.
In the DM, Katie somewhat sheepishly begins by writing 'I hope you don't mind me reaching out like this out of the blue' before going on to promise that she can 'bring professional women's boxing into focus and generate serious interest,' with the help of her 'global profile and great fanbase.'
She adds that she needs a 'great promoter' and sure enough Eddie got back to her with 'I'm very interested - what's the best number to reach you on?'
It was the beginning of a beautiful journey and Hearn's tweet has been liked an incredible 105,000 times at the time of writing. Katie herself shared the post along with the words: 'Amazing to see how far we’ve come. I’m very thankful. But there’s more to be done!'
There certainly is as Taylor prepares to defends her undisputed world lightweight titles against Spain's Miriam Gutierrez on November 14, a fight you will be able to watch live on Sky Sports.
