ITV director of television Kevin Lygo has hinted that Love Island might not be going ahead this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Love Island is usually filmed in Mallorca throughout June and July but Lygo has now poured water over hopes that the reality series will go ahead this summer.
Speaking during a virtual
Edinburgh TV festival panel, he said: "Will Mallorca open its doors to hundreds of production people arriving? Will there have to be a quarantine? We have to factor all that in."
He expressed doubts about the morality of filming, saying "also, what signal might it be sending out if we’re doing a show where everyone is crammed together, slobbering over each other and the rest of the world is told, ‘Don’t go near anyone in the park.’ I’m a bit uneasy about that.” Lygo concluded that "we will make a decision in the proper way quite soon."
Earlier this year Paige Turley and Finn Tapp won the winter edition of Love Island, which was hosted by Irish presenter Laura Whitmore.
