Irish Sport Fans Will Love This Heartbreaking Film Which Airs On TV Tonight

"Maradona good, Pelé better, Georgie Best"

The words on a banner which used to adorn the stands at Manchester United's Old Trafford stadium where the Belfast Boy has been seen as an absolute legend since he first burst onto the scene in 1963.

Widely considered as the first 'celebrity footballer', Best became known as the 'Fifth Beatle' because of his iconic hairdo and good looks as well as his meteoric rise to fame which coincided with that of the Fab Four.

Best's life and the struggles he went through with alcohol and coping with fame are well-documented, most recently in George Best: All By Himself which only appeared in cinemas quite recently.

Tonight, the film makes it's television debut on BBC1 at 8.30pm and is sure to captivate football fans as well as those who aren't too interested in the beautiful game.

The documentary follows both the highs and lows of an extraordinary career and is a pretty heartbreaking account of how talent and fame don't always guarantee happiness. Quite the contrary, it centres on Georgie's battles with addiction and loneliness and features contribution from people who knew him the best.
