Here in Ireland, we're well used to politicians getting involved in high-profile public feuds. Cast your mind back to 2002, when then-Taoiseach Bertie Ahern famously attempted to defuse the spat between Ireland manager Mick McCarthy and his captain Roy Keane and you'll know what we mean.
17 years on from the infamous Saipan fiasco and we have another sporting squabble to rival them all. Well, sort of. Yesterday, Coleen Rooney brought the world to a standstill when she posted a brilliantly-written story about how she utilised some admirable investigation skills in order to out fellow footballer's wife Rebekah Vardy as a tabloid snoop. Like most feuds on this scale, it wasn't long before politicians started offering their own opinions on the matter and Paschal Donohoe is one of the first. Appearing on Virgin Media's
Ireland AM this morning, the Finance Minister was quizzed on the situation and firmly waved the flag for the Scouser by saying "Rebekah v Coleen has been keeping me going and like the rest of the world I think, I'm Team Coleen."
In a week where Donohoe didn't win too many friends with his Budget, Coleen might be glad to have his support. This one's going to rumble on, folks.
