CMO issues very positive update on possibility of Electric Picnic going ahead

10th May 2021

You might want to consider taking that festival gear down from the attic after all, after Electric Picnic hopes were boosted by comments from the Chief Medical Officer today.

In an interview with Bryan Dobson on RTÉ Radio One today, CMO Dr. Tony Holohan said that while we "may getting ahead to be making an absolute prediction" about Electric Picnic, he'd "like to think that if we found ourselves in a situation where we had really good progress with the vaccine, where we didn't run into any difficulties in relation to variants and so on, that some of the things that are not now possible, including outdoor events like Electric Picnic, might be things we can think about." He also encouraged people who have been vaccinated to "get out and about", saying "I would really encourage people who have been vaccinated and got to the point of the benefits of that vaccine, where sufficient time has elapsed since that vaccine, to get out and about now. Meet up within the context of the guidance." Electric Picnic is due to take place from September 3 until September 5. Earlier today, it was confirmed that the Longitude Festival, due to take place in July, has been cancelled for another year.
