Bono's famed singing voice is about to reach a whole new audience after the U2 frontman was confirmed to be among the cast for Sing 2.
Sing 2, a sequel to 2016 Universal and Illumination animated comedy Sing, is set for theatrical release in December 2021 and, according to
Variety, Ireland's very own Bono will be among the cast. The publication states that Bono will be joined by Letitia Wright (Shuri in Black Panther) as well as Pharrell Williams, who has previously been nominated for Best Original Song at the Oscars for his song Happy (Despicable Me 2).
Bono will portray a lion by the name of Clay Calloway who 'became the world’s most reclusive rock legend after the death of his wife.' Williams will voice and elephant named Alfonso and Wright will play a 'streetwise feline dancer who helps gorilla Johnny (Taron Egerton) regain his confidence while learning his choreography.'
The trio will join an already stellar returning voice cast of Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Scarlett Johansson, Egerton and Nick Kroll. According to Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri, Sing 2 will "transcend the animation genre, immersing audiences in a fully realised world populated by complex characters, each with bold aspirations and relatable challenges."
The original Sing was nominated for Best Feature Film at the 2017 Golden Globes.
