The BBC is airing a documentary about the life of John Hume tonight, six days after news of the former SDLP leader's death was announced.
Initially broadcast in 2011, Hume gives viewers an insight into John Hume's remarkable life from his early days in Derry, through to his influential political career and his contribution to the Northern Ireland peace process and Irish society as a whole.
The one-hour programme features contributions from a number of Hume's peers and admirers including Tony Blair, Mary McAleese, John Major and Bono, as well as from Hume himself.
John Hume passed away on Bank Holiday Monday in a nursing home in his native Derry at the age of 83. Reacting to the news, President Michael D. Higgins
said that John Hume "transformed and remodelled politics in Ireland, and the search for peace, with a personal bravery and leadership, and with a steadfast informed by a steadfast belief in the principles and values of genuine democracy."
Hume will air tonight on BBC One at 10.30pm.
