A swimmer who went for a dip at Salthill during Storm Brendan has sparked fury online.
Storm Brendan hit the west coast early yesterday morning with Salthill in Galway experiencing high winds and strong currents.
Overtopping at the prom in Salthill lead to the South Park being closed to traffic with the public being warned to exercise extreme caution and avoid making unnecessary journeys where possible.

People were also advised to avoid the water for the duration of the storm, but it seems that not everyone heeded the cautions.

The man can be seen struggling against the waves and current as he tries to pull himself out of the water. People have been quick to berate the decision since the footage was posted online, with many labelling the decision as selfish.

The
Irish Coast Guard issued a warning online in response to reports that people had been putting themselves at risk during Storm Brendan.
"The Coast Guard strongly advises the public to stay away from exposed beaches, cliffs & piers during storm conditions. Remember to Stay Back, Stay High and Stay Dry. If you seem someone in difficulty in the sea or on the shore dial 999/112 & ask for Coast Guard".
