Sligo is one of the most underrated counties in Ireland, hands down.
It has a wealth of natural wonders such as Benbulbin and Mullaghmore, a wealth of history and mythology and now most recently, it’s become a booming hotspot for foodies.
There’s a tonne of amazing spots to excite, entice and surprise the senses.
Here’s some of my top picks:
1. Nook
Breakfast, Brunch and lunch in the cutest café imaginable. Expect bold, bright, fresh salads, tantalising treats and adorable decor.
The venue also hosts supper clubs, which are a must.
My top pick however, is their French toast – holy moly.

2. Pudding Row
Found along the Wild Atlantic Way, Pudding Row’s menu packs a punch for travellers. Located in Easkey, this cosy café was voted Best Café in Ireland at the 2018 Irish Restaurant Awards.
The café/bakery specialises in sourdough dishes, fresh local and organic produce and crumbly pastries. Inside, you’ll lookout to beautiful views of the Atlantic Ocean and Easkey village.

3. Flipside
Flipside Is Sligo’s first independent gourmet burger restaurant. Set up last year by two locals, it’s become a hotspot for beer and burger lovers.
The spacious and bright venue has a buzzing atmosphere and they’re all about good vibes and great tunes.
All of their produce is locally sourced and the burgers are 100% Irish Angus.

4. Stoked
Located above the famous Strand Bar in Stranhill, this café has been making waves with western foodies.
Inside, there’s a great atmosphere a menu with plenty of choice and the coolest octopus mural I’ve laid eyes on.

5. Knox
Not only is Knox one of the best in the county, it could very well be one of the best spots in Ireland.
They repeatedly knock it out of the park with their original dishes. Breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner – all amazing, every time.

6. Hargadons
A modern take on a traditional pub, Hargadons has a great atmosphere, unreal grub and fab staff.
Try the Lissadell chowder or or the moules frites, no place for fresher seafood than on along the Wild Atlantic Way. Delish.

7. Shells Café
This one is definitely for the outdoorsy-type.
This dainty surf cafe on and shop on the coastline has one of the best flat whites in the country.

8. Hooked
This restaurant is run by restaurateur Anthony Gray, There’s not only a dinner service, but brunch too everyday – and everything looks really tasty and the quirky setting makes it all that bit nicer to enjoy it in.
From slow cooked pork belly, a jumbo sausage roll to a twist on egg’s benedict there is a lot to choose from and the desserts look mouth watering.

9. Sweet Beat
Sweet Beat is a plant based café that serves up brunch and lunch options. They specialise in ferments, cold pressed juices, smoothies and raw cakes.
The food is almost as colourful as the cafés bright and colourful exterior. It's all super fresh and you won't feel shite after it, which is key.
This is legit heaven on earth for veggies and even vegans. You'll find the café on Bridge Street and it's open seven days a week.

10. Coach Lane at Donaghy’s
Last, but most certainly not least, we have the lovely Coach Lane in Donaghy’s bar.
Many consider this the best food in all of glorious Sligo and I can confirm that the bread in the bar is some of the best on our fine isle.
