This Fairytale Castle Spa Hotel Is The Perfect Weekend Escape

There's nothing I love more than escaping to the countryside for a few days when real life starts feeling a bit stressful. So recently, my friends and I decided to book ourselves in for a little spa getaway and after throwing a few suggestions around, we landed on the fab 5-star Kilronan Castle in Co. Roscommon Situated on the shores of Lake Meelagh with panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, the minute you arrive, you can already tell you're in for a day of absolute relaxation. https://www.instagram.com/p/Byfm9MhCksK/ Now, while they do weekend packages that include an overnight stay, we decided to rent a cute cottage nearby on Airbnb and just book in for a spa day – although I would love to come back sometime and check out their stunning looking rooms. https://www.instagram.com/p/Bs4ZVb1HG6s/ We all went for the Perfect Pamper package that includes a selection of two treatments and a light lunch (although you’re given a voucher for the hotel restaurant which you can then redeem against anything on the menu). I went with a facial and a back massage and the great thing here is that the therapists really talk through everything with you to get to know your skin type and general preferences.   My therapist seemed genuinely shocked at just how much tension I had in my upper back from sitting at my desk all day, but she definitely beat it out of me during my massage, which was firm to say the least. I basically floated out and into the spa's thermal suite afterwards. I also tend to have problem skin that breaks out fairly frequently, but I haven't had a single issue since I had their Kilronan Castle Signature Facial. Coincidence? Maybe – but I’m sure it has something to do with the gorgeous €120-a-pop Elemis products they used. https://www.instagram.com/p/Bv47IMkBy1g/ Lunch and afternoon tea are served in the stunning surrounds of the main castle next to the spa, where you can choose to sit in either the Drawing Room overlooking the lake or by the piano in the Palm Court. https://www.instagram.com/p/BnGinRQFH0o/ The menu is simple but delicious - think sandwiches, wraps, burgers and the like - but portions are huge and will definitely leave you feeling full for the day. After lunch in the stunning main castle, you can take a nice, long stroll through the gorgeous grounds and down to the shores of Lake Meelagh before heading off. I could definitely see myself spending a full weekend wandering through the forest surrounding the castle and forgetting about the stress of real life, but a day’s escape definitely still did the trick this time around.
