This Irish Tourist Attraction Has Just Been Voted One Of The Best In The World

A beautiful Wexford spot has just been awarded a “highly commended” prize at the World Tourism Awards.

Hook Lighthouse in Co. Wexford was the only Irish attraction to make the shortlist, in the category of Best Tourism Project in the UK and Ireland 2018.

The awards ceremony took place at the Savoy Hotel in London, with the “world class” tourist attraction being nominated by guild member and travel writer Isabel Conway, who said it “deserves further recognition”.

800-year-old Hook Lighthouse is the oldest operational lighthouse in the world and was previously called “the granddaddy of all lighthouses” by Lonely Planet.

You can take a guided tour of the tower where you’ll hear stories going back as far as medieval times, including its creator William Marshal, known as "the greatest knight that ever lived".

After taking in the spectacular ocean views from the fourth floor balcony, you can unwind at the Lightkeeper’s House Café.
