Securing an extension for their run as European capital of culture, Galway 2020 will continue the festivities until April of this year.
Forced to cancel many of the events they had lined up for last year due to strict public health measures, organisers have been granted an extension to allow for a host of online projects to move into April.
Saying that Level 5 government restrictions have impacted the festival's plans greatly, organisers still have plenty planned for the coming weeks - including The Mighty Ocean by Máirtín O’Connor, Wires Crossed by Galway Community Circus, Rise with Baboró International Arts Festival for Children, Galway Dance Project and events by TULCA Festival of Visual Arts amongst many others.
Speaking of the extension, Patricia Philbin, CEO of Galway 2020 commented:
"That local artists, arts organisations and partners are sustaining their livelihoods during this pandemic is an absolute priority for us.
"We work very closely with the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport & Media to ensure Covid compliance on the delivery of this programme.
"It is challenging, but in the best interest of the work, and indeed our partners, that we continue to deliver projects online, much to the delight of our audiences. People from all over the world are enjoying work created and made in Galway."
