Fines could be given to anyone travelling beyond the 5km restrictions without just cause.
Following
Monday night's announcement that all of Ireland will be heading into Level 5 restrictions from midnight on Wednesday night into Thursday morning, it means a return to the 5km restrictions around your home.
The
government website has stated that the exceptions to leave that 5km area around your home are as follows:
- travel to and from work, where work involves providing an essential service
- to attend medical appointments and collect medicines and other health products
- travel to attend disability day services
- for food shopping
- for vital family reasons, such as providing care to children, elderly or vulnerable people, and in particular for those
- who live alone but excluding social family visits
- for farming purposes, that is food production or care of animals
- to attend a wedding or funeral
- to visit a grave
Another addition to the new Level 5 restrictions could be fines for those who breach those 5km boundaries, with the topic said to be in discussion at Cabinet today.
As reported by RTE, Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly is to bring the proposal to that would allow for fixed charge notices or fines for breaches of regulations, with official documents on the proposal stating that the fines will be implemented unless it the reasons for travel fall under the exceptions outlined above.
