Reconnect with Louth, the Birthplace of St Brigid, this February
With Ireland’s newest Bank Holiday right around the corner, it’s time to start planning how to spend the glorious long weekend.
The Bank Holiday for St Brigid’s Day, which was established in 2023, will fall on Monday, February 2 this year.
It can be a struggle to decide how to spend bankers but don’t worry because we have you sorted.
Louth has a vibrant programme of events which are sure to keep you entertained. From an EPSO Urban Art Walking Tour, which is the perfect way to explore the Town/Dundalk to a mediaeval-style Candlelit Procession, in nearby Faughart, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
The Féile na Tána traditional music festival on the Cooley Peninsula will also be taking place during the weekend. Programmed by acclaimed local violinist Zoë Conway and guitarist John McIntyre, this is not one to miss for music lovers out there.

As the birthplace of St. Brigid, there has really never been a better time to visit Louth than during Ireland’s newest public holiday celebrating our matron saint. It is the perfect place to deep dive into where her story began, making it an ideal destination for those curious about Ireland’s rich heritage.
Visitors can explore key sites featured on Brigid’s Trail Map and Guide alongside experiencing a vibrant programme full of special events to celebrate the matron saint’s legacy across the Brigid of Faughart Festival.

Some events taking place across the long weekend include learning how to weave Brigid’s iconic Cross in An Táin Arts Centre, Dundalk.
You can also participate in Brigid’s Way Celtic Pilgrimage. This walk will start at St. Brigid’s Holy Well on the Hill of Faughart and continue to her Shrine and ancient healing stones.
County Museum Dundalk will be hosting a St. Brigid exhibition exploring her roots in both pagan and Christian traditions. They will also be hosting St. Brigid's Cross-making sessions on Sunday, February 1.
You can also expect to find Dundalk town centre completely transformed as The Northern Lights take place. These light shows celebrating Brigid will be an unforgettable fusion of both sights and sounds.
While in Dundalk, you can explore the town’s bustling culture and murals showcasing its rich history and heritage, enjoy great food, catch live music and soak up the atmosphere.
With more events still to be announced along with its road-tripability from Dublin and Belfast, there's no doubt that Louth is a must-visit destination for the February Bank Holiday.
